Scenario 1*
Sophie is the client. You are employed to clean her home. She asks you to cut her vegetables for dinner. What will you do?
- I’ll cut the vegetables, she is after-all the client
- I’ll notify her that I will first complete all my tasks as contracted and then if there is time I will assist her.
- I’ll refuse to assist, as it is not part of home cleaning
Scenario 2*
In three months time your employer makes a change to how work is carried out. They get some new tools that works completely different than what you are used to. How will you respond?
- I will convince my employer the old way works better because I am used to it
- I will do some of my own research on the new ways of working and help to get it in place
- I will wait for my employer to implement and make the changes and to train me
- Often new ideas like this does not work out, so I will go through all the training, and then I will revert back to my old way of working so we can get the job done
Scenario 3*
In the past week, you notice that Felix has been reading a newspaper during work while the supervisor is out of the office. Last week the supervisor was absent a lot- and Felix seems to be reading while he should be completing his tasks. What should you do first?
- Talk to Felix. Explain that meeting team deadlines is important, and that by reading the newspaper he is preventing your team from reaching goals.
- Don’t intervene. This is between Felix and the supervisor.
- Talk to the supervisor. He should be aware of Felix not giving enough attention to his tasks.
- Support Felix, he might have a problem at home and needs some space and perhaps support.
Scenario 4*
You and Thandi works together at a client. The client is not home. You hear a big noise. Upon investigation you see Thandi broke an expensive vase (worth R10’000). She tells you to not tell anyone and to help her clean up the mess. What is the most effective response?
- Explain to Thandi that she needs to tell your supervisor and client about it.
- Tell your supervisor that you and Thandi broke the vase.
- Don’t tell anybody about the vase, and hope no one finds out.
- Tell the supervisor that the cat, dog or children of the owner bumped the vase, it then fell and break, but you cleaned it up.
Scenario 5*
Someone offered you a better or higher paying position. An offer you cannot refuse. How would you respond to this?
- Tell all your acquaintances in the business that you are in the middle of negotiations for a better position
- Only tell your manager or supervisor about your intentions of leaving. Since you are an employee there, you keep on doing your job normally.
- Since you know you will be leaving and there is nothing your employer can do, you invest a little less in your work and a bit more in attaining the new position.
- You don’t update anyone until you actually hand in your notice. Nothing has been decided yet.
